Co-Signer
Also known as Cosigner
Someone who agrees to be equally responsible for repaying your mortgage if you can't.
In plain English
A co-signer applies alongside you and is legally obligated to repay the loan if you default, even though they typically don't live in or hold title to the home. Their income and credit can help you qualify, but the debt shows up on their credit too.
Adding a co-signer is a serious commitment for both parties — it affects the co-signer's own ability to borrow for anything else while the loan is active.
