Radon is a naturally occurring, odorless radioactive gas that can seep into homes from the ground. A radon test measures indoor levels over a few days, since a standard visual home inspection can't detect it.
Elevated radon levels are common in many regions and are relatively inexpensive to fix with a mitigation system — worth testing for even if the home looks perfect.
