Closing

Also known as Settlement

The final step of a home purchase, where ownership legally transfers from seller to buyer.

In plain English

Closing (also called settlement) is the meeting — often now largely digital — where you sign the final loan and title paperwork, pay your remaining closing costs, and receive the keys. It typically happens 30–45 days after your offer is accepted.

Why it matters

Knowing what happens at closing ahead of time — and what to bring — helps you avoid last-minute surprises on one of the most important days of the process.
