For Sale By Owner

Also known as FSBO

A home being sold directly by its owner, without a listing agent representing them.

In plain English

In a FSBO (pronounced "fizz-bo") sale, the homeowner handles pricing, marketing, and negotiation themselves instead of hiring a listing agent. Buyers can still bring their own agent — the seller simply doesn't have one.

Why it matters

FSBO sales sometimes move faster on price since there's no listing commission built in, but they also mean less standardized paperwork — having your own agent or attorney review everything matters even more.
